holy shit this is glorious.

On a slightly more morbid note that is somewhat related: My ex wife had a pretty redneck uncle, I used to go over and drink shitty beer and burn stuff in the backyard. One day I made fun of him for a picture on his mantle (classy redneck) of who I thought was Barry Gibbs in full white safari disco suit attire with an airbrushed background. Come to find out that was his brother who died in 1980. I was not invited for drinking shitty beer and burning stuff any more.

Oh. Yeah never make fun of mantle pictures. Them's the important ones.

Once I almost did something similar. I saw a picture of a tree on my buddies wall. Not a glorious tree, but just a little deciduous tree in an unkempt area.

I was gonna ask him "What the hell is this [insert not politically correct word for stupid] tree doing on your wall?"

Instead of that I just asked "Hey man, what is this tree?"

Him: "Oh we planted that for my mother." (His mother died when he was 16).

I was really glad I used a less offensive framing of the question at that moment.

We are in the presence of greatness. I just hope your aunt doesn't get hit by a bus today.

Except for my great grandmother.

One of the portraits was of some distant relative who died in like the 1960s. As far as we know, she knew him but they weren't best buddies or anything.

We decided that he looked A LOT like one of my cousins, which is what prompted us to look up who he even was.

I think everyone's done something like this. Here's my version:

Went out to Rochester, NY to visit a friend from college over summer break one year - and visit House of Guitars!!!) Her dad was a jeweler or gemstone cutter or dealer or something. He had a this walk-in safe in the basement the size of a master bedroom where he kept his collection and what not. While perusing, we're all making comments like how things look and what not while I notice the names on some stones are just odd. "I get the latin names and all, but some just seem silly, like this one, 'AndyThompsonite' - who the heck names a rock something like that!?" Turns out, her dad named it after his dead best friend.

Whoops.

That is an incredibly impressive and inspired prank. Like 5th level black belt of pranksters.

What the HELL did your aunt do to drive your dad to rise to that level!? Or is he just naturally the Einstein of pranks?

She's batshit insane, and fucked up my grandparents' estate after BOTH their deaths. It's all (mostly) in good fun.

Oh. Sorry to hear about that but I guess it's good your dad has a sense of humor about things then.

I mean, they've never gotten along. More like a love-hate relationship, as-in they love hating each other.
